Not so new news

08/02/2024 We had the first lab dinner of 2024

This time we had Swiss fondue at Katja's place. We had too much fun and of course forgot to take a picture...

02/2024 Conference presence of the lab in 2024

This year, the Flexibility Lab will be represented by Katja at the Neuroethology meeting ICN2024 in Berlin and by Lorenza at FENS2024 in Vienna. Come say hi at our posters and symposia!

28/11/2023 - 01/12/2023 The lab goes to EMBL Subcortical Circuits Meeting in Heidelberg!

Lorenza presented a poster on the impact of ambient light on innate behaviour, and Katja talked about postdoc work studying the evolution of neural circuits and behaviour.

22/11/2023 Lab Dinner with n = 5

To welcome our new lab members we had a fun lab pizza dinner. Now the table starts looking like a crowd and we're looking forward to our next outings!

11/2023 SISSA in the magazine Focus

The Italian laymen science magazine FOCUS reported on 45 years SISSA and printed a short interview with Katja and Sebastian Goldt (Data Science) on AI and biological neural networks.

7/11/2023 Camilla Lodetti & Po-Yu Liao join the lab as new PhD candidates!

Welcome to the Flexibility Lab! We are excited to have two new lab members who bring already plenty of experimental skills with them.

03/10/2023 Lorenza presented successfully her 1st year's work during the Neurobiology progress report!

The lab is proud of her involvement in building the lab, her first behaviour data sets, and everything she's learned about viruses, colliculus, in-vivo electrophysiology etc. Welcome to your second year, Lorenza!

22-24/09/2023 SISSA Neuroscience at Trieste Next

Our booth at this outreach event introduced the general public to the genetic code, shapes and functions of neurons, and used the rubber hand experiment to raise the question of how do you know where your body ends. The SISSA communications teams and many volunteer students and postdocs made this a very successful event despite rain and wind!

17-20/09/2023 Katja at ERM2023. Katja was getting the latest news from the retina field and presented data from Peromyscus work at the 2023 edition of the European Retina Meeting at the alma mater University of Tuebingen.

16/08/2023 We did our very first behaviour experiment today! Super excited to have collected the very first data set of our lab! Congrats to Lorenza for being part of setting up everything, thanks to Marco Gigante for building the behaviour setup, to Farrow Lab members for answering my questions, and to bonsai for the open source interface!

10-14/07/2023 Lorenza and other SISSA PhD candidates and postdocs are attending the Cajal Experimental Neuroscience Bootcamp 2023!

Check out the videos of their robot!

07/07/2023 Ming-Ching Chiang will join the lab August 1st!

We're excited to welcome very soon our newest lab member and first postdoc. Ming-Ching is joining us from Dr. Shih-Chieh Lin's lab in Taiwan.

06/07/2023 New preprint on evolution of innate behaviours is out! Together with Felix Baier, Hopi Hoekstra and Karl Farrow, we've found surprising differences in threat aversion of different Peromyscus species and identified a central brain node underlying those differences.

Find more info also on Twitter.

28-29/06/2023 Katja @ The Crick and LMB Cambridge

Katja presented postdoc work that forms the basis of the Flexibility Lab and to learn about the amazing research of the labs at those institutes. Thank you Petr Znamenskiy and Marco Tripodi!

29/05/2023 We're moving in!!!

Today we have started moving into our renovated lab space. Unpacking everything that has already arrived and deciding where things should go - it feels like a real lab now!

21-26/05/2023 Poster @GRC_Modulation

Katja is discussing science and presenting data linking old to new work about light-dependent innate behaviours at the GRC Meeting on Modulation of Neural Circuits and Behavior.

10/05/2023 Lorenza @Paris Spring School

Lorenza is spending 2 weeks on learning everything about phys, imaging and optogenetics and meeting many other cool scientists at the Paris Spring School

24/03/2023 Katja's Talk @World-wide neuro

Check out Katja's World Wide Neuro talk about Routing and modulation of retinal input to circuits underlying aversive behavior

23/03/2023 Katja gave an impromptu talk at the Goettingen Neuroscience Meeting 2023 about collaborative work with Felix Baier, Hopi Hoekstra and Karl Farrow on innate behaviours and underlying circuits in Peromyscus

13/03/2023 Lorenza got accepted for the Paris Spring School where she'll learn evertyhing about ephys, imaging and optogenetics!!

02/03/2023 Today the renovation works of our lab start - we're excited to be able to move in soon!!
